Girls Camp 2013

I got to go to Girls Camp again this year.

I love Girls Camp!

It's a great opportunity to get to know my Young Women on a more not-at-church basis. We have some awesome Young Women in our ward! We had a ward Girls Camp this summer since the Stake was putting on our Pioneer Trek this year.

But before I get to my Girls Camp run-down, a few minutes after I left for Girls Camp John called. Our baby birds were flying the nest! I was a little bit sad. It was so fun watching them grow those two weeks. Every once in a while I'd walk past the front door, and one would be peaking into the house. The day before they were all practicing flapping their wings, so we knew it wouldn't be long until they left. John said they stayed pretty close to the house the first day, then they were gone. Maybe the momma bird will come back to our wreath next year. I think that would be awesome! This picture is from their last morning as our temporary visitors:

Aren't they so cute?!

Now back to Girls Camp.

The first day we went zip lining and whitewater rafting. Kailen and I did the zip lining. Not the whitewater rafting. You see, we have pretty weak stomachs. I can't even go on a speed boat without some serious Dramamine, and even then it doesn't always work. And once I get that motion sickness stomach, it hangs on for days. Literally. So I wasn't about to chance it, it being the first day and all.

Here are a few pictures from our first day:

Zip lining was really fun!

While the girls were whitewater rafting, Kailen, Lisa (another leader who also didn't want to go whitewater rafting), and I went into Clayton, a town not too far away. It was the cutest little old town! We walked around and found an old-time drugstore with a food counter! We ate a treat at the food counter sitting on some old-time stools. It was pretty cool! I also found one of John's Father's Day presents while we were walking around - a portable hammock. He loved it! He took it to Trek (the next week) and slept on it in the back of his truck. The whitewater guide told us what time the girls would be at this rapid, and since there was a trail on the other side of the river from where they'd be, we got to watch them go over the rapid and then take turns jumping into the river. It was awesome!

The rest of the week we had classes (I taught one on Integrity), went on a hike, played games, played in the lake, and several of the girls rode on the speed boat. I did not. It was a really fun week!

Yeah for Girls Camp!
