I rode to Virginia with Diane for her son Tyler's high school graduation, and Kam got to stay with us for the weekend. We stayed at Diane's sister Brenda's house, and Brenda and her husband were awesome! They took Kam and me in as if we were family.
It was an awesome weekend!
We wanted to go the The Mall, but Diane's GPS took us the round-about way. It thought we wanted to go to the Washington Monument in Maryland. I didn't even know there was a Washington Monument in Maryland. But on the way, before we realized we were going the wrong way, we practically ran into this:
The Washington D.C. Temple!
I'd wanted to see it, but wasn't sure we'd have time. Diane's GPS made sure we had time!
It was beautiful!
Then we drove to The Mall and we toured the Holocaust Museum (they won't let you take pictures). It was interesting and very sobering. It's hard to believe that people could treat other people the way the Nazis did. Very sobering.
Next we went to the Museum of American History. It was fun!
One of the first things we saw in the museum was this display about the Mormon temple in Nauvoo. I thought that was very interesting... and very cool!
The Wicked Witch of the West's dress from The Wizard of Oz
Dorothy's ruby red slippers. So cool!
We spent Sunday with Diane's family, and then Kam and I spent Monday shopping and spending time with Rebekah, Steven, and Matthew while Diane attended Tyler's graduation and spent time with her family. I loved spending some time with Kam, and I think she needed it too. Her job in Virginia wasn't going so well, and she really needed a break. I actually drove back up to Virginia the week of the 4th to bring her and her stuff home. The job just wasn't right for her. She now has an awesomely cool job in Colorado nannying for an amazing family for 3 months. And she's so happy! It's always amazing how the Lord has a plan and His plan is always the best plan. Ever.
While in Virginia this last time I ran a couple of mornings on the trail by Rebekah and Steven's apartment, so I got to add Virginia to my list of places I've run. :) Kam and I had a great few days together, and we're so thankful Rebekah and Steven let us stay in their apartment while they were in Kentucky.
I'd really like to go back to Virginia/D.C. again some time because there are still lots of things I'd like to do and see. And Kailen really wants to go to the Holocaust Museum. Hopefully we can make it back, because I really love D.C.! And take John with us this time. :)
