We had an awesome time in D.C. a couple of weeks ago. Kailen and I took Kam up there to get her all settled in her new job, and saw what we could of the tons of sites while we were there. Our awesome hosts were one of John's little sisters, Rebekah, her husband, Steve, and their son, Matthew. Matthew was a real trooper as we dragged him all over for two days! I hope he's finally recovered...
Anyway, here's most everything we saw, in no particular order:
The White House |
The Washington Monument |
The World War II Memorial |
The Lincoln Memorial |
Rebekah and Matthew |
Near the Vietnam Memorial |
The Vietnam Memorial |
The Memorial to nurses who served in the Vietnam War |
Matthew was such a trooper! |
The Korean War Memorial |
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial |
The Jefferson Memorial |
Lunch at Good Stuff. Yummy! |
The Capitol |
The Farmer's Market in Old Towne Alexandria |
Downtown D.C. from the Old Towne Alexandria Harbor |
Christ's Church in Alexandria, where George Washington, Robert E. Lee, and some other famous people attended church. I would love to go to church there one day! |
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. We got to watch the changing of the guard. Very cool! |
The Iwo Jima Memorial. There was a group of Vietnam Vets at this memorial who were also at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It would be so interesting to talk to them for a bit! |

Some other memorable things about our trip:
- Steve is a food connoisseur! We had so much yummy food all weekend. It was awesome!
- We also watched some fun movies!
- When we were stopped at a stop light in downtown D.C., a black SUV pulled up beside us and we noticed that the driver was wearing dark sunglasses and one of those curly things in his ear. I wanted to take a picture but was afraid to...the light changed and he raced out with three SUVs just like his following very closely behind him, and they all turned on their police-like lights. It was so cool!
- And most importantly, we got to spend time with Rebekah, Steve, and Matthew!
My favorite things that we saw were the Vietnam Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. There was such an awesome spirit at both places, and I was really touched by the number of names etched into the walls on the Vietnam Memorial and the number of headstones at Arlington. Each name and headstone represented not only a person, but a family and friends. It was a bit overwhelming...
We had a fabulous few days in D.C., and we've already started our list of things to see when we go again. :)
And I got to cross another thing off my bucket list!
