I really didn't think much about it, because it had been windy and stormy. But I did wonder for a second why all the sticks were basically the same size.
Last night after John got home from Vegas we left to go to the office for a few minutes. As we were walking out the front door he asked if I'd seen the bird's nest?
What?
He pointed to the top of our front door wreath and this is what we saw:
He then told me there was a nest started in the bottom of the wreath and he'd taken it down before he left for Vegas Sunday morning.
I guess this mama bird really likes our wreath because she built a beautiful nest even after John took down her first one.
Then all the uniformly shaped sticks made sense. It amazes me that she made such a pretty, uniformly shaped nest using only her claws and beak. She even added some of her feathers and down.
Impressive.
I got a chair and took a picture of the inside of the nest:
See that one cute little blue egg?
I came back in and told Kailen and John we'd have to be very careful when shutting the door so we don't knock the egg out.
That would be devastating!
And then we'll have to be even more careful we don't knock the baby bird out after it hatches.
I went out this morning as Kailen and John were leaving for seminary and kind of looked up at the nest. I guess I was too close because I heard the frantic trills of a bird, who I'm guessing is the mama bird.
Then later this morning I heard chirping, looked through the glass door, and saw her feather tail hanging outside the nest.
It's cool, I tell you.
Although I think this means that we'll be using the garage door for awhile.
Just in case.
