John, Kailen, and I flew to Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday, April 6. Since it was General Conference weekend, we got tickets for the Sunday morning session, and John got a ticket for the Priesthood session Saturday night.
Since we don't get to go to General Conference very often (seeing as how we live in Georgia and all), we were so excited!
We met up with my friend Karma (who I knew in Florida) and her friend Summer for dinner. Then we girls hung out while John went to the Priesthood session. We started out at Deseret Book for Ladies' Night (which they always hold during the Priesthood session). It was fun! They had some great deals and I got to meet Julianne Donaldson, the author of one of my most favorite books--Edenbrooke. I didn't have my copy, so I bought another one and she signed it for me, and then we got a picture (of course!). The inscription says, To Susan, A Kindred Spirit, which I think is kind of cool because I love the Anne of Green Gables books (I'm rereading them right now), and I'm all about finding kindred spirits. :) I'm so excited for her second book, Blackmoore, to be released in September. So excited.

After we finished buying way more stuff than we'd planned at Deseret Book, we walked around Temple Square. I love Temple Square. There is such a calm and peaceful spirit there. I think I could just sit there for hours. I'd like to do that one day.

I love this picture of the Temple's reflection in the reflection pool. |
We also went into the Joseph Smith Memorial Building since Kailen hadn't been there since she was about nine. It is a beautiful building!

Sunday morning we headed over to the Conference Center for General Conference. I was so excited I could hardly stand myself!

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir warming up for Music and the Spoken Word, which is broadcast right before the Sunday morning session of conference. It's an awesome two-for-one deal! |

I love this picture of all the people on Temple Square for conference. It was amazing to be a part of them! | | |

We watched the afternoon session of conference in the Tabernacle. They have huge screens that they show conference on in this building as well as in others on Temple Square. It's fun to sit on the benches and think about how people have been sitting on these same benches to watch conference since the late 1800s.
After conference was over, we drove to Rexburg where we spent the rest of our Spring Break/BYUI Graduation trip.
Stay tuned for part 2.
