When I go to BYUI's website to figure out what classes to take and to register for classes I always see one of these:
Confusing, huh?
And some of these visual verifications are a lot harder to figure out than this one.
At first these visual verifications were very frustrating to me. I just couldn't figure out what some of the letters (or numbers or punctuation marks) were so I could type them in correctly and enter the registration site.
I finally figured out what the problem was.
I was trying to figure it out by looking at it as a whole.
When I forced my eyes to focus in on each letter (or number of punctuation mark), to not look at what was around it, and to type each letter (etc.) in one-by-one, I was able to figure it out.
And I could enter the site.
I think life can be like this. When we're faced with a trial or a problem or something that worries us, we often look at the entire huge, overwhelming picture. But when we force ourselves to focus in and work on each little part, disregarding the "stuff" around it, it's often easier to figure out the entire picture.
Since I'm a bit of a huge plan-ahead-er (is that a word?), I often stress myself out with the "what ifs". Really stress myself out if I'm not careful. But if I can just look at future things one step at a time, I definitely don't cause myself as much stress.
It's a hard lesson to learn, for sure.
With these visual verifications, if you type in the wrong things, you get a second chance on a new visual verification.
You get a "do-over."
And if you mess that one up, you get another "do-over."
And so on until you get it right.
And as hard as it is to not get it right the first time, you can eventually get it right. Eventually. With patience.
In life, we also get "do-overs." We have a loving Heavenly Father who gives us all the "do-overs" we need. Even though we tend to beat ourselves up a bit for not getting it right the first time (please tell me I'm not the only one that does this).
And I'm so thankful for that!
:o)
