[5/29/12] While I've been resting.

While I've been resting the past few weeks I've been doing some reading.

Here's what I've read so far:

I'm probably one of the few people on the planet who hadn't read the Hunger Games series. I had resisted them because I don't really enjoy really stressful and/or really tense books, and from what I heard these were stressful and tense.

Who writes a book about children required to kill other children in order to survive?

After Kailen read the series she told me that yes, they were pretty stressful and tense, and that no, I probably wouldn't enjoy them.

After we saw the movie, and after my sister told me I would enjoy them, I decided to take the plunge. I think it helped that I'd seen the movie and so I knew what was going to happen.

And once I finished book one I had to know what was going to happen. So I read books two and three. While I enjoyed them, I think they weren't as good as I expected them to be because of all the hype I'd heard. I don't know if they could've ever lived up to that hype.

Heaven is Here was an incredibly inspiring book. I've been following Stephanie's blog since right after her accident, and her story is amazing. I highly recommend this book and her blog.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was really good, too. My sister recommended this one to me. It's a little bit hard to follow in the beginning because the whole book is a series of letters and it's hard to follow who is writing to who and who each writer is, but once you get past the first few pages it's a great book!

I highly recommend it.

Here's what's next:

My sister-in-law, Sarah, recommended this series to me. She described the series as "comfort food in a book."

Works for me.

Fortunately I found the first one of the series at my library that I downloaded to my Kindle. That is so cool! The library has several other books in the series for Kindle, which is pretty exciting.

Sarah also recommended this series to me, which I'd also like to read:

This book is also in my to-be-read pile. My mom recommended it to me:

And this book is one I heard about in one of my classes:

And these are also in my to-be-read pile:

It's a good thing I have some more weeks of resting in my future... :o)
