[2/6/12] Monday Memories: Kids and contracts.

We decided to join my brother-in-law's cell phone plan that he gets through his work because it's a much better plane and it will save us some pretty serious bucks every month. Parker and Kailen went to check out the free phones on the plan, and were not impressed with them, to say the least. They really didn't have very good ratings. All of the "better" phones required a data plan, and John and I weren't really too excited about that. Kids these days are plugged in so much anyway, that we thought they really didn't need to be plugged in even more.

We stuck to our guns pretty well until last Sunday, when they approached us with a plan. It was obvious they'd been discussing this plan, so we told them to draw up a contract and we'd take it under advisement.  Within about 1/2 an hour, this is what we were presented with:

Pretty shrewd negotiators, those two.

They covered all their bases -- how they were going to earn the money with enough to not only pay for their data plans but also their tithing, and how they would handle any replacements that would be needed.

And I love the part at the end about "We will also work together to get along better."

I overheard them talking earlier about the terms of their contract and heard Kailen say, "But we don't want to promise to get along better. What if we can't?" I said, "I really like that term. Let's keep that one in." (They definitely have their moments of not getting along).

Then I heard a groan.

Funny kids.

Parker also said, after giving us the contract and while still in shrewd negotiator mode, "Hey mom, we can put the free scriptures app on our phones so we can read them anytime."

He's good.

But they did impress us with their contract so we accepted their terms, with condition that we'd be monitoring their data usage.

They were fine with that.

So I guess our house will be getting a lot "smarter" in the next few weeks.

Oh boy.
