[8/1/11] Monday Memories: Education Week

When Zach was a baby I added "Attend Education Week" to my Bucket List.  Education Week is held at BYU and BYU-Idaho every summer. It's a multi-day series of the most awesomest classes ever, classes about spiritual stuff, parenting, marriage, finances, music, art, emergency preparation/food storage, homemaking, fitness and nutrition, and so forth.

I go to refill my bucket which has slowly been drained over the course of the year.

My first experience with Education Week was at BYU in 1998. I have been every year since except for 2006 when we took our family vacation to Hawaii and 2009 when I had surgery 1 1/2 weeks before Education Week. And boy, did I miss going those two years. My bucket was bone dry by the time I got to go again.

I've attended Education Week at both BYU and BYU-Idaho. My parents have gone with me to Education Week several times. I've had friends go with me. It's an incredible adventure.

This year my friend Diane went with me.

We left on Monday and will return tonight. We've spent time with her family and with my family. We toured Temple Square.

We even got to listen to an organ recital in the Tabernacle!

We ate at the Lion House Pantry in downtown Salt Lake City and at Maddox in Brigham City. Their rolls and raspberry butter are to. die. for. Seriously.

We attended a re-creation of a Passover Dinner Friday night as part of Education Week, which is something I've been wanting to do. For years. It was really interesting, but I could do without the bitter herbs (horseradish). Not very tasty.

We attended 23 awesome classes and we've  filled our empty buckets to the point that they are spilling over, which is a good thing.

And I'm so very grateful for a husband and kids who understand that I need some time each year to renew and replenish and have some "me" time.
