[6/27/11] Monday Memories: Moving Edition, Part 1

One year ago on June 29 (which was on a Tuesday last year), the movers came and our new adventure into this new season of life in Georgia officially began.

None of us took pictures of all the packed moving boxes that filled our house, which is a bit surprising since we all have cameras. You'll just have to take my word for it - there were a lot of boxes. Our exercise room was full, all the hallways were lined with boxes stacked several high. Pretty much every empty space was filled with boxes, and even some not-so-empty spaces.

We had a going away swimming party for Parker and Kailen the Saturday night before, in the midst all the boxes and with pretty much everything we own packed. Thank heavens for the invention of pizza and soda and ice cream!

We said our goodbyes to our church family on Sunday and I subbed in Gospel Doctrine class (adult Sunday School). Not sure how smart a decision that was, with it being our last Sunday and all, but I made it through without too many tears.

Monday night was our first of fourteen nights in a hotel, with the girls (Chihuahuas). I was a bit nervous about this part of the new adventure, but the girls did amazingly well the entire 14 nights. Abby was deathly afraid of the elevator the first few days, but then she got over that and became a hotel-staying doggy pro. I was a little concerned as to how they would take this big move since Abby was diagnosed with stress-induced colitis a few weeks earlier. Yes, my chihuahua was stressed out. She wasn't feeling well so I took her to the vet. They checked her over and didn't find anything, so the vet asked me if there was anything going on in our family. I chuckled a bit and said we were moving. "Oh! That's it!" she said. "She has stressed-induced colitis." Crazy. As long as they were with one of us they were fine.

Tuesday morning I took Kailen to the church so she could leave for Girls Camp and said some tearful goodbyes to some of my awesome seminary girls.

And Tuesday the movers came. Finally. About 4 hours late. And without a moving van. At this point the real stress (as opposed to "just" stress) began. Evidently there wasn't a driver for our stuff so they loaded all our stuff onto two trucks and then unloaded it in their warehouse in Phoenix. To wait for a driver... The end of that story is next week's edition of "Monday Memories." And it's a good one with lots of drama. And lots of paint. And more tears. And a pretty hefty damage claim for the movers (I bet you can't wait!).

The rest of the week we spent hanging out with friends, since we were temporarily homeless.

Friday night some friends hosted a going away party for us and we got to say our very last tearful goodbyes to friends who have truly become like family. Kailen got home from Girls Camp late that night.

We left bright and early Saturday morning for Georgia.

It was a very. long. week!
