One year ago on Father’s Day Parker received his Eagle Scout Award. Many of our ward family came to celebrate with him, as well as Grandpa and Grandma Whetten; Aunt Janine, Uncle Byron, Riley and Hannah; and Grandpa Kelley. Probably the neatest thing about the ceremony was that Zach (since he’s also an Eagle Scout) and my Dad, a life-long career Scouter, got to participate. My dad had two daughters so we knew that not earning the Eagle Scout award was not an option for our boys. :o)
This was a crazy, crazy time for our family last year. The movers were coming 9 days after Parker’s ceremony, our house was full of packed boxes, and in the midst of all this, we wanted to have Parker’s Eagle Court of Honor with all the people and leaders he’d been working with the past 8 ½ years – his entire journey through scouting. Kinda’ crazy but very important.
(Sidenote: we found out we were moving - for sure - the day of Parker's Eagle Scout Project. We had to hurry and get all his paperwork submitted, his board of review scheduled, and the paperwork from the national council returned so we could have his Court of Honor before we moved. Not a fast and easy process by any means. It was a bit stressful...but so worth it).
And since I wasn’t blogging when Zach Eagle Court of Honor, here are some pictures of that momentous event from May 2006:
Grandma Underwood was also able to attend, along with all the family who came for Parker’s. I must be a glutton for punishment because even though we weren’t moving at the time, Zach graduated from high school and seminary this same week. I figured it would be nice to have everything while we had family in town since none of our family live really close. And we left for our long-dreamed-of-and-saved-for family vacation to Hawaii one day after all our family left.
I'm so proud of my Eagle Scout sons!
