My friend Karma came to visit this weekend. We became friends in Florida where we served together in the Relief Society (our church womens' organization) and have been friends ever since. Karma is an amazing lady. She has endured some pretty rough trials the past few years with grace, humility and a lot of faith.
Right after we began serving in Relief Society I was asked by some friends in Georgia to teach a class on home organization and time management. Karma had a sister in Georgia so she offered to drive up with me. You really get to know someone well after riding with them for 12 hours in a car! We talked about past experiences and I really got to know the depth of Karma's character. And I knew we would be great friends.
One thing, of many, that I admire about Karma is her willingness to serve others. During the time we were serving together in Relief Society a single mom in our ward (church congregation) named Allison was in a terrible car accident. Both her femurs were broken and she had many other injuries. Karma took her and her kids into her home for two weeks and attended to their every need. And I mean every need. Karma helped Allison do things she couldn't do for herself, which was pretty much everything. She also took care of Allison's kids, including homework and all their activities. She cooked for them. She loved them.
We had a fun weekend and spent a lot of time just talking. We reminisced about our Florida years and got caught up on our after-Florida years. I was reminded, once again, of Karma's strength and faith and love of God.
And I am so thankful she is my friend.
