[6/24/11] The Big Rock

If you're ever in Atlanta in the Summertime, you must visit here:

And if you come to visit us during this time of year, we will take you there ourselves!  Stone Mountain Park is an awesome place to visit.  To learn more about it go here. To put this huge granite carving into the proper perspective, the Stone Mountain experts say you can park a full-sized bus on the back end of the front/middle horse.

Last night we took our visiting Arizona kids - Andre, Aliya and Taylor - to experience the annual summer laser show. There was a 30% chance of rain but we took our rain ponchos and went anyway (because we are brave like that). And it didn't rain one single drop. Here we are waiting for it to get dark so the show can start. Everyone sits on a huge lawn and by the time the show started the lawn was packed (Suggestion: don't go on the weekends. We tried it once and will never. do. that. again!).

The show has fireworks, Georgia stuff, Southern stuff, Civil War stuff, techno stuff, and - my favorite - Patriotic stuff. We've been going to Stone Mountain (except during our Arizona years) since before Kailen joined our family and the Civil War and Patriotic stuff still choke me up a bit. And the Georgia and Southern stuff make me proud to be a Georgian. Again.
